When Your Pet Needs Care Now!
At DPC Veterinary Hospital in Davie we are committed to providing the finest and most comprehensive care possible for your four legged friend. Part of that commitment includes a fully equipped and staffed diagnostic service to speed up diagnosis and allow the vet to begin treatment much faster than relying on an outside lab for results.
Our onsite lab and diagnostic center has just taken another step forward with the addition of a new ultrasound machine. This painless, non-invasive technology lets the vet examine soft tissue organs to locate problems that are not easily found with x-ray such as bladder stones, kidney stones and organ abnormalities. The ultrasound can also detect if your female pet is pregnant; a diagnosis that normally would take much longer to determine.
How a Comprehensive Diagnostic Service and Onsite Lab Benefits our Pet Owners
We know that you think of your pet as a member of your family and if your pet is ill or has a medical emergency you want to be able to ease their condition as quickly as possible. While our vets are some of the finest practicing in Florida, they can't provide comprehensive care unless they have access to information that can only be acquired through the use of diagnostic tools and services.
In order to get that information quickly, DPC veterinary Hospital has invested in an onsite lab and diagnostic/therapy tools including:
- Digital X-Ray radiographs
- Ultrasound technology/sonograms
- Pet laser therapy
The lab is state of the art and can quickly get results for heartworm tests, complete blood counts, blood-chemistry panels, urinalysis and fecal examinations and more.
The net result is that our vets get the information they need to make a diagnosis and start treatment quickly, and that's good news for you and your pet. If medication is part of the treatment, we have an onsite veterinary pharmacy that is fully stocked with FDA approved products.
Our goal is to offer the best veterinary care in the Davie area. We are open seven days a week including most holidays so our patients can receive quality care when they need it. If you are looking for a full service veterinary clinic why not give us a call today and set up an appointment for you and your four legged buddy.
DPC Veterinary Clinic in Davie Now Provides Ultrasound Diagnostic Scans
DPC Veterinary Clinic is delighted to announce that we can now perform ultrasound scans onsite. Our investment in this technology provides our clients with faster diagnostic results and greater convenience. The new ultrasound machine is just the latest example of our commitment to provide the finest in veterinary care to Davie area pet owners and their four legged friends.
An ultrasound scan is a painless, non-invasive diagnostic procedure that provides important information to the veterinarian for treating many internal conditions. Pet owners may be more familiar with the term "sonogram" which is the "picture" that is generated by the ultrasound scan. These "pictures" are read by a veterinary radiologist who can use them to locate abnormalities in soft tissue organs including:
- Kidney stones
- Bladder stones
- Masses
- Intestinal abnormalities
Based on the information provided by the scan, the vet can make a more informed decision on the best treatment for the condition. Follow up scans can be used to see the effectiveness of the treatment.
In addition to scanning soft tissue organs, the ultrasound can be used to detect pregnancy in a pet. An ultrasound scan performed at least 28 days after your pet's last ovulation can reveal if your female pet is pregnant.
The Ultrasound Scan From the Pet's Point of View
If the vet has scheduled an ultrasound scan you will be asked to withhold food for 24 hours prior to the appointment (water is ok). In preparing your pet for the scan we may have to shave off some hair/fur and apply a gel to ensure that the probe has good contact with the skin. For some breeds and personalities this is no big deal but for others we may have to give mild sedative to keep them calm. It's important that the pet not move while the scan is being performed.
Once the scan is complete we wipe off the gel and the pet is ready to go (and probably wants to chow down).
The scan is done by a technician who sends the sonogram "picture" to a veterinary radiologist for interpretation. The information that is provided by the scan can be invaluable in the treatment of your pet and that's why we are so excited about being able to speed up the ultrasound process by performing the scan right here in our hospital.
